Design Philosophy
Since 2003, we’ve pioneered IP audio technology with one goal: making communication systems more capable, more reliable, and more accessible without requiring costly infrastructure replacement. We are experts in helping customers design their intercom and paging systems, and we have also worked with many original equipment manufacturers, assisting them in designing and implementing IP audio into their products or communication systems.
Built on Real-World Problems
Digital Acoustics wasn’t founded in a lab; our founders came out of the modem, network products, and music industries, and our products were born from solving actual customer challenges. Our first major installation at Hong Kong International Airport in 2003 required us to invent entirely new technology: the world’s first TCP/IP intercoms for mission-critical security communications. That project taught us that the best solutions emerge from understanding what customers actually need, not what we think they should want.
This problem-solving approach continues to drive our product development. When large retailers needed to deploy many speakers and “hot phones” in their stores that could be efficiently controlled from remote monitoring centers, we developed a multi-zone controller solution that met their specific requirements. When customers faced expensive asbestos remediation to replace analog systems, we created the IP7-FX IP Amplifier to convert their existing analog intercoms to IP without the high demolition costs associated with asbestos. Every product in our lineup exists because it solved a real problem for a real customer.

Flexibility Without Complexity
We believe powerful technology should be simple to deploy and operate. Our products are designed with both the installer and the end operator in mind:
- Easy installation: Features built in at the product development stage to reduce installation time and complexity
- Retrofit-friendly: Simple integration with existing analog equipment and legacy wiring
- Operator-friendly: Intuitive interfaces that don’t require extensive training
- Maintainable: Systems that facility staff can manage without constant vendor support
Innovation Grounded in Standards
We pioneered IP audio technology, but we didn’t create a proprietary ecosystem that locks you in. Our products support industry-standard protocols—TCP/IP, multicast, SIP 2.0, VoIP phone systems (see VoIP Systems), and integrations with platforms like Singlewire InformaCast and video management systems (see Integrations). We believe in open architecture that gives you choices and protects your investment.
At the same time, we’ve patented technologies like Fail Forward™ redundancy that provide capabilities competitors simply cannot match. This balance—standards-based compatibility combined with proprietary innovations—gives you the best of both worlds: interoperability and unique advantages.

Proven Where It Matters
Our design philosophy isn’t theoretical. It’s validated daily in some of the world’s most demanding environments:
- NASA trusted our technology on the International Space Station
- The U.S. Navy specified our explosion-proof equipment on aircraft carriers
- Fortune 100 companies like IBM and Boeing deploy our solutions
- K–12 schools, major universities such as Notre Dame and the University of North Carolina, hospital systems, and transportation hubs rely on our communications
- Over 80,000 quick-service restaurant locations use our drive-thru technology
These customers choose Digital Acoustics because our design philosophy delivers what matters: reliability, flexibility, longevity, and genuine support when they need it.
Custom Developed Solutions for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)
Over the years Digital Acoustics have helped OEMs design IP communications into their products and systems. In special circumstances, we have done—and continue to do—contract development for many OEMs, providing development and integration as an extension of their engineering teams. Examples include:
- Developed an IP intercom for an analog audio equipment manufacturer
- Developed ruggedized amplifiers for use on trains, featuring special connectors to accommodate vibration
- Designed waterproof and vibration-proof speaker systems for ocean-bound ships
- Developed IP audio bridge hardware to provide a data link for transmitting audio to the cloud for AI ordering systems
- Plus many more
